Meet Your Franchise Coaches
Franchising 101 Co-Founder
For over 30 years, Mark has experienced success as an owner of several franchise businesses. He began his franchise career in 1988, with The ServiceMaster Company. Within that business, he opened a commercial janitorial service division, residential maid service division and a disaster restoration cleaning division.
Five years later, he bought Norrell Staffing to assist his growing ServiceMaster businesses with their employment needs. Norrell quickly grew into a successful staffing business assisting companies all over West Michigan. To balance out his franchise ownership portfolio, he entered the food industry in 2002 by purchasing a retail coffee and smoothie franchise. In 2006, Mark purchased Snap Fitness, growing the business to six locations throughout Michigan, but has since sold all of these franchise businesses to focus on helping guide others into successful franchise ownership.
While all of these franchise endeavors kept him busy for 30 years, he managed to find the time to lead the development activity of two of the largest maid service franchises in America.
Mark began his franchise coaching career in 2001 and has helped hundreds of people determine if franchise ownership was right for them. In an effort to educate more people about the world of franchising, he and his daughter Holly launched Franchising 101 in 2019. Today, they continue to leverage their franchise experience in helping people take back control of their futures by matching their skills & experiences to franchising opportunities. Mark is also a member of The International Franchise Professional Group (IFPG).
He and his wife Jan reside in a suburb of Grand Rapids, MI. They have two married children and five grandchildren. Their son Jeff is a commodities broker and his wife Kristen is a third-grade school teacher. Their daughter Holly, as mentioned above, is a franchise business coach. Holly’s husband, Tyler, is a commercial risk advisor. Their family shares a love for golden retrievers and currently have three beautiful, female dogs.
Holly Pasma Burke
Franchising 101 Co-Founder
Holly was raised in a franchising family. Since the age of two, her family has owned and operated service, business-to-business, and retail franchises. Growing up, she worked in the various family businesses learning business basics. In high school and college, Holly managed a Maui Wowi Smoothie franchise.
After graduating with a Sales & Marketing degree from Western Michigan University, she joined the corporate world. After two years in corporate sales, she transitioned into franchising to follow the dream of being her own boss. For the last 10 years, Holly has owned and operated a multi-unit Snap Fitness franchise. During that time, Holly has served on multiple marketing cooperative boards and has spent countless hours working with other franchisees helping execute successful sales and marketing campaigns. In 2019, she and her father launched Franchising 101 to help people through their career transitions and into successful franchise ownership.
With experience in franchise management, operations, and development – all with leading U.S. franchise companies — and as a franchise business owner, Holly can speak first-hand to the freedoms franchise ownership can allow.
If Holly isn’t in her office, you can find her spending time with her husband Tyler and their three children. They enjoy traveling, spending time outdoors, and summers on the lake.
